Match Report: 1st Team 6-1 Trewlany FC (Sat 31st Oct)

Forest United won 6-1 against Trewlany at home in the Fenton Cup on Saturday.

In this first round Fenton Cup match Forest United were seeking to put on a positive result after the previous week's heavy defeat to Castle United at home in the Essex Junior Cup. Today's opponents Trewlany, who Forest United Reserves had played in pre-season, before the team was disbanded, were seeking their first win of the season.

The match started with both teams lacking composure on the ball & failing to string together more than a couple of passes. As the half worn on both teams created a few half-chances but neither team broke the deadlock. Forest however finally managed to score after some good passing & movement off the ball allowed Aiden Thomas, Michael Powell & Jake Rogers to break into the Trewlany's 18 yard box. Although the Trewlany keeper saved Thomas's shot on goal, Rogers was on hand to recieve the ball from the rebound & score. Powell later increased Forest's lead as he was played in, before beating the keeper with a low shot. The first half ended with Forest 2-0 in front.

The second half saw both teams creating further chances although Forest were more clinical in their finishing. Powell went on to score a further three goals, although there was some controversy in regards to one of the goals he scored, with Trewlany claiming he committed a handball in the build-up to one of his goals. However two great finishes & rounding the keeper, before tapping the ball into the open net for his last goal, highlighted a great performance from the striker. Ryan Reberio wonderfully well taken goal, the final one scored by Forest, where he struck the ball on the volley, leaving the keeper with no chance, capped a improved display from the home side. Trewlany scored a late goal, direct from a corner kick, which denied Forest a much wanted clean sheet. But the match ended with Forest winning 6-1.

Forest United now move into the second round of the Fenton Cup & take a much needed confidence boost from this victory.
