Forest United FC won the Forest United FC 11-a-side Football Tournament on Saturday after defeating CSM/Island FC 3-1 in the final.
This year was the second time the tournament had been held & with eight teams taking part (Forest United, Forest United Reserves, CSM/Island FC, East Londoners, Trewlany, Castle United, Lotus Sports & Euro Dagenham Reserves) it promised to deliver a feast of football for all those present.
The eight teams were split into two groups of four teams:
Group 1:
Forest Utd
Island FC
Trelawny
Euro Dagenham Res
Group 2:
Forest Utd Res
Castle Utd
Lotus Sports
East Londoners
Forest Utd lost their opening match in the group stages 1-0. Beaten by a nine man CSM/Island FC team.
In their second group match, the first team bounced back with a 3-1 win over Euro Dagenham Reserves. Goals from Michael Southee, Kerry Murrell & a own goal from their opponents secured the win.
In their final group match, the first team beat Trelawny 4-0 to finish as group winners.
In the first of the semi-finals, the two Forest teams lined up against each other. In a fiercely contested match the first team ran out 3-0 winners.
In the other semi-final, East Londoners, group winners, faced runners-up, CSM/Island FC. This was a very tight match & with no goals scored in normal time, the match went to penalties. CSM/Island FC overcame East Londoners to progress to the final.
In the final, a re-run of the Time Out Bar Summer 11-a-side semi-final, held the weekend before, the first team overcame CSM/Island FC 3-1 to lift the tournament trophy for the first time, after Ryan FC won the inaugural tournament, last season.
Now Forest United will prepare for the new season as they take on Chingford Athletic away next weekend in the first round of the East Ham Memorial Hospital Charity Cup.
